Hello, and welcome to my website. My name is Fumiko Hidaka, mother, artist, writer, publisher and retired vascular technologist. I was born and raised in Miyazaki, Japan and moved to the United States in 1986. I moved from Seattle, Washington to Jacksonville, Florida after my retirement in 2022. This fresh new chapter of my life has allowed me to focus on my passion for creative writing and drawing full-time. I create freehand digital drawings on a 24 inch touch screen (Surface Studio). My motifs of cats, yoga, dance, vespas and roller skating invite a diverse audience into my world. I often draw without prior thinking, and discover where I am going from there. It has been so much fun being a vendor at Riverside Arts Market. Seeing the smiles of people looking at my art, and the joy of sharing some of my babies (my art) that get to go to new homes is such a gift!
Please visit me and my arts at Riverside Arts Market in Jacksonville. I will be there on
October 19th, November 9th & 30th and December 14th in 2024!
Prior to my retirement, I filled my time in the United States taking college courses and progressing to a point of understanding how to speak and write English fluently. Thereafter, I earned my Bachelor's of Science specializing Vascular Technology (non-invasive ultrasound diagnostic technology) at Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Oregon. My career as a Vascular Technologist lasted 23 years in Seattle, Washington. Even during these busy years of working and raising a child, in my spare time I consistently acted on my love for the artistic expression of drawing using various mediums. I often created specific pieces for family and friends or just for myself.
They are stray cats. I named mom Mitton. From the left Yojin (means careful in Japanese), center is Tesla because of the big T on the face and right side is Bigeye. We visited Wellington again in November 2022. All kittens were gone, but mom, Mitton was there. I miss Mitton and her kids. I was able to visit them by drawing them, Wellington Kids. They appear in my arts frequently. They are in Nekonoyume (Cat's Dream), Catastrophic and Japanese Summer.
